Originally built in 1959, and recently completely renovated to include as much of the original structure as possible, the owners of this Midcentury-Modern home combined a modern aesthetic that focuses on form with convenience and functionality, resulting in an extraordinarily livable space. The addition of 1,000 square feet to the existing structure of the home, completely updated outdoor living spaces along with an extensive landscape overhaul have helped transcend time and tradition by adding modern, livable touches to Midcentury design.

This 7,450-square-foot home has 5 bedrooms, 4 full baths, and 2 half baths. Luxurious built-in amenities keep family members entertained, active, and connected with each other. Although the home was recently built in 2004, the owners modernized it after purchasing it 3 years ago to fit their Scandinavian aesthetic, which called for a complete reimagining of the space through extensive renovation of almost every room and surface of the home. The homeowner is a gifted designer and the co-owner of Olander & Capriotti Interior Design. Her home showcases her remarkable talent for transforming an entire residence while keeping it exceptionally livable.

Modern stylistic sensibility lives in harmony with over 100 years of architectural history in this historic Craftsman on SW Talbot. Every inch of this home interweaves the old with the new—from contemporary light fixtures and modern art pieces to period built-ins and moldings, high ceilings, and hardwood floors. In a city where a large number of old homes are being summarily demolished in favor of new construction, the owners have taken a quite different stance. Learning how to reconcile their own tastes with the house’s architectural history has brought them to see themselves not merely as owners, but as “stewards” of this stunning home.

When visitors walk up the brick-lined front steps of this elegant home, enter the wide doorway, and see the first two dazzling rooms, they’ll know they’re in for a treat. Though guests will assume this 4,000 square-foot Portland Foursquare was built a century ago, the four-bedroom/four-bathroom home was built in 2012, combining the best characteristics of both traditional and new construction to create a highly livable space.

Originally built by famed architect Joseph Jacobberger for a prominent evangelist of the time, this stunning home has had only five owners in over 100 years.
